Battle Scars

As I walked into the room I saw beautiful lady,
Tears stained her perfect sweet face
I took a step closer and could not fathom why,
This lady thought she was a disgrace
I reached out my hand and pulled the mask aside
Beneath all the grey I saw what battle scars lay
Marks of beauty and pain, love and loss was what unfolded as the mask turned to nothing
What once was a shield to turn pain away, was now a face that needed to stay
Holding back a sob was all that she did
As i pulled her into my warm embrace
Her final tears soaking my velvet collar
Our minds drifting through space
Finally pulling apart from each others arms,
I stared at the mirror as I put the mask back on
For I could not leave home without a cover
With only myself as a lover, I walked outside to dawn.
