One time I asked Mama
where the little white beans I had for lunch came from
to thank for the energy that it gave me every day.
But she said she didn’t know, and so left me alone.
One time I asked Mama
why some had never been seen with two cents
but instead bathed in
sapphire-tinted waters
and adorned with buds of ruby flowers.
I asked why we didn’t have that wealth.
But she said she didn’t know, and so left me alone.
One time I asked Mama
Why the sun fell into the frame of the sea
never to rise again.
But she said she didn’t know, yet never left my side.
