I hear their cries in the night,
Cries of mourning,
Ringing through the alleyways,
A dark cloud,
Concealing the milky moon,
Its path across the onyx- black sea, erased,
Until it passes over,
My head leaning out the window,
Hair flowing in the wind,
Whipping through the air,
As black as their feathers,
As swift as their wingbeats,
Rising, too, with the thermals,
My cries in unison with theirs,
Ringing through the alleyways,
Cries of mourning.
