Excellence Award in the 'National Treasures 2022' competition
Creeping in, looking out,
For a guard going walkabout;
Trying not to set off the alarm -
If I want the jewel I need to stay calm.
Putting my life and friends at stake
To get my hands on the country's keepsake
Taking what keeps this land together
Could easily be traded in for treasure.
Then what goes through me is a jolt,
As a woman yells for me to "Halt!"
I look left, I look right,
But my accomplice is nowhere in sight.
I didn't manage to get the jewel
And I'm about to lose my cool
"I've made a mistake" I say;
Now all I have to do is pray.
