Kindling Fire

The chill of the crisp morning air,
Warmed by red embers,
Birds fly squawking from their roosts,
As we gather by the campfire,
The wood crackles against the blazing heat,
Kindling bright spirits amongst ancient trees,
Shadows of old oaks,
Soften the red glow,
As the sound of laughter sizzles,
And campfire tales are shared,
The smell of soft and spongy marshmallows roasted,
Creates a flawless night around the fire,
Flames send red sparks dancing into the breeze,
Spirals of smoke curl into the night sky,
Heating the warm wintry air,
Toasting my frozen fragile fingers.
