The crash and fizz of sand against the waves
Brings memories back of when I was a child,
Of love and joy and light my parents gave
Despite my frequent urges to be wild
The waves are wild like me; they swirl and sound
Like voices of the kids we used to be;
We’d dig deep holes with our feet in the ground
Not knowing happiness is hard to see
But really I think that our constant hunt
For happiness and joy is all in vain;
As adults, we’re unwilling to confront:
The search itself is what leads us to pain
We should listen to our children; they know
That happiness, like water, ebbs and flows.
