The War's Victim

Dark fumes of smoke enveloped the sky
Ash and ember scattered the broken path
Coiled underneath this tragedy was hope
Hope for the War to end
Hope for 1944 to return back to normal
Hope for the Finches that stood before the crack of dawn
They were powerless against the force of the battlefield

A life before catastrophe existed
where the birds of Poland sang melodious tunes
where the wind whistled softly on the Corn Poppies
where the evergreen leaves coiled underneath the glistening sunlight
Life was vibrant before the war began
