The Australian Bush

We hop in the car and drive away
The dead-straight road carries on forever, it doesn’t play, doesn’t stray
At last, we arrive and hastily unpack, all squirming to explore the land around
For we all love the bush in its own Australian way
As excited as a kid on Christmas day, I prance into the bush
Leaves crunching, twigs snapping and crows flapping as l wonder into new land
After hours of fun, l realise I’ve been gone for far too long, so l call out for help
Mum luckily finds me saying “we’ve all been so worried”, taking me back with a harsh command
Now that we are all safe and sound,
We settle around the fire
And eat a hot meal of soup, salmon and salad
With full stomachs and cheery hearts, we begin to look around, to admire
Around us, tall brave trees stand asserting their domination
While the small bushes surround in clusters of maybe two or three
The crickets chirp their constant sound, just as the fire dies down
We all begin to yawn and its time to sleep, so we head to our tents with a steaming cup of tea
