Fleeting Youth

Do you remember the glint in her eyes?
Do you remember her bright smile illuminating those dark skies?
And how happiness flowed from her
Like the tide of this very sorry ocean,

Do you remember the innocence in her hands and her optimistic presence?
And how she saw both night and day as peaceful,
Able to ignore the growling storm brewing on her horizons -

To her, that’s all but the past-
She's locked up those memories in her golden hourglass.
Now; she lays awake each night,
With his repetitive melody playing through her mind,
Begging herself not to get lost in the unrequited presence of that cryptic smile-

Trying to listen to what they say about love oh - ‘it’s not love at all,
‘She’s too young’ right? ‘It’s just a dream like this airy night’.
Let it go they say, like the memories of her past,
Let them flow like the sand in this hourglass.
