Conductor of the Evening Chamber

The wizard stitched the crochets
and sewed the melodies,
embroidering the thunderous silences
into a flowing tapestry of pure life.

Each glissando was hope for our brief, delusional wanderings,
each climax a carnival when he’s drunk with grief
and there is nothing more worthily euphoric than indulging
in himself and his dying.

Some assumed he was a wry hoax polishing every pretty penny,
some feared he was a doddering metronome still groaning,
some never thought a blink past his hypnotic conjuring,
but I know his story.

He is the conductor of the evening chamber
--- and he is beginning to paint the dawn.
