I was surrounded by a sea of people,
The sound of the waves in the background,
The nervous but excited faces of the people around,
Some smiles, some frowns, some scared
Hearts were racing, mine was too,
It was the ceremony of raising the flag,
To claim Australia theirs,
The flag was raised by Arthur Phillip,
The captin of them all,
Guns were blazing,
Hurting everyones' ears,
The ceremony was over,
I felt relieved,
As the English were very pleased
