One At Rest

You have always been so near
We were all so happy without a tear
Then you had to go
I was in shock from head to toe.
I guess I shouldn't cry
And keep you from your time
With your loving reunited dad
Who went when you were a lad.
I see you sleep so still you lay
But I just hear your quiet voice say
"If you're sad and lonely because I've gone away
Cheer up old friend 'cause none of us can stay".
He sees us weep over his grave
And comforts us and says our names
He wants me to know that although we're apart
He will keep on living inside my heart.
