Empty House
No one to shadow
Or shelter from rain,
Keep from the cold,
Or hot summer days,

No one to welcome
In the evening breeze
No one to listen to
While they're cooking their eggs and cheese

I just want a family
To welcome at night
And say hello to in the morning
As they shut off the lights

They would leave for their jobs
And hurry back in a flash
Because they would miss me,
The old green house, with the brown grass.
