3rd in the 'Watch Out! 2000' competition
The day the States of Zollervein Grew,
The day that Austria split in two.
The day the Kaiser Wilhelm Told,
Of German fantasies filled four fold.
The day the plane touched down in Wales,
The day the death-wind blew in Gales,
The day Sir Churchill told the news,
Today the Axis Powers lose!
The day our boys went off to fight,
The day we landed at first light.
The day we promised Britain more,
Our digger, that day, Australia bore.
The day the mortars ceased to boom,
The day Australia heard her doom.
The day our men never came back,
Their mud-stained gun-slings all went slack.
The day the Great War drew a close,
The day that Germany turned up her nose.
The day the world regained it’s sense,
Was the day we lost our innocence.
