I Am The Jester

I am the jester, the clown, here to entertain.
I enthrall, puzzle, entreat and astound.
My verbal play and engaging wit is the talk of the town.
Until my fun begins to die.
No laughter lingers on my lips.
It’s all gone.
Given over to the greedy grasping public.
I have none left for myself and so I fade into the background.
You wonder where I went but only for a little while.
Then the next flashy trick and bamboozling riddle captures your mind.
I am done.
