Cat
Her muscles are tense, heart pounds eyes aglow,
Her tail twitches from side to side,
From deep within the shadows,
She waits.
The bird flutters amongst the verdant grass,
Unaware, oblivious to danger,
Fragile like an autumn leaf,
Prey.
The cat strikes,
Lightning fast,
With paws of steel and amber eyes,
Time slows.
She hears the bird's strangled cry,
Feels no pity,
Tastes blood and the ecstasy of the hunt,
Monster.
