Black Saturday Poem

Black Saturday Poem
By Lachie Fletcher

I watched the flames engulf my house.
I fought back heavy tears.
All I could hear was roaring and the voice of my conscious saying, run, run like the wind.
The house can be rebuilt but lives cannot...

I jumped into the car just as dad was zooming off.
I turned back to see the house explode into flames.
A huge fireball engulfed our home, our castle.
Dad was doing 150km/h but the fire was too quick.
Without any warning the inferno caught up.
Before we could blink the car exploded into a ball of flames.
But wait, I’m still alive with tubes running everywhere.
I don’t know if my family’s safe, but at least I am.
I will just have to wait...alone...
