Captivation

I lay and read on my bed,
While a whole world forms in my head.
A world of beauty, of terror as well,
Some of it akin to a personal hell.
I think of the good instead of the bad,
And the joy and good times to be had.
The bustle of markets, the children at play,
While merchants sell their wares each day.
But then bad things drift to mind,
Like how the evil treat the kind.
How pickpockets search for riches in your purse,
Yet the crimes some commit can be much worse.
Eventually I close my book,
And out the window I decide to look.
Beauty lies out there, so easy to find,
Captivated, once again, is my mind.
