The End of the Day
The red hot sun was blazing down
Upon the farmer’s sweaty brow
Unlike the man, the day was young
But the farmer’s time was almost done
Next to him his dog “Bluey” ever so loyal
Was burying a chewed bone into the harsh, rugged soil
A fourth generation farmer with a love of the land
A gentle character with wrinkled skin, leathery and tanned
Stood staring across the vast acres of cane
When suddenly, through his chest, ran a jolt of pain
The shadow of death loomed large beneath the midday sun
The Grim reaper called and the battle was won
The farmer’s eyelids closed, he fell into a crumpled heap
Lying alone, protected only by “Bluey,” to an endless sleep
A solitary man who never found love
Sent for eternity to God, in heaven above
