You Walk

You walk
Alone
I watch you
You progress
Through the empty
Streets
In the dark, cold,
Senseless city
Walking
Alone
The greedy shouts
And malice
Surround you
But on you walk
Oblivious
Or observant
Impossible
To read your mind
It starts to rain
The people scatter
But you do not
Seek shelter
You walk on
Alone
Never straying
From your path
Determination
In each step
Your footfalls
Drumming out a steady
Beat
Your focus
Never wavering
From your destination
Known only to you
Your face
Your gait
Never reveal anything
Thunder breaks
There’s no one out
But you remain
Unaffected
You simply walk
Alone
I watch
As you walk
And accept
That I will never know
The purpose
The rhyme or reason
To your solitary
Promenade
So I will leave you here
And you will
Continue to
Walk
Alone
