King Midas
Along time ago there was a king named Midas. He lived with his pretty daughter Marigold and servants on 10 acres in the city. King Midas was a greedy person because he just wanted more and more gold even though he already had tonnes of gold under his house.
One day King Midas went to see a young man who could make wishes come true. King Midas said to the genie “Could you grant me a wish that what ever I touch changes to gold.” The genie said “Your wish is granted.” Little did he know the grief it would bring him.
The next day king Midas woke up and sat down on his chair, it turned gold. When he pulled up the doona cover and turned gold. Next he opened the curtains and they turned gold.
When King Midas sat down at the dining room table to eat his breakfast, his food turned to solid gold also the table and the chair turn to gold. (King Midas seemed to have everything that would make someone happy. He had a magnificent castle, a beautiful daughter expensive clothes spectacular gardens lots of money and all the food he wonted. Despite having all these things king Midas was not satisfied.)
King Midas was shocked and thought that he was going to starve to death because he wouldn’t be able to eat or drink. King Midas went to see his daughter Marigold when he kissed her on the head she turned to gold and King Midas was devastated. King Midas went to see the genie and he begged him to take away the golden touch. The following day Midas woke up and went he touched things and they didn’t turn to gold. He was relieved to see his daughter return to normal and pleased he could tasted and eat his food. He was a very happy king.
King Midas learnt his lesson that having lots of gold doesn’t make you happy. Happiness is having your friends and family around you. This brings true happiness.
