Fate

Fate. One simple word that controls us completely. Our destiny is mapped out for us and every time we stray off that path bad things come our way. Fate is what controls us completely, you can’t outrun it because it follows you, you can’t change it because it is unchangeable. This is why our fate is kept hidden from us, as long as we don’t know what it is, we wont ever go against it. But what if you did find out?

I closed my eyes and listened to everything around me, the pounding of the music, the screams and cheers, the lyrics, the guitar, the drums, the bass, I could smell the sweat and heat coming off others bodies and I couldn’t help but scream and cheer as well. I opened my eyes and looked up at the stage, watching the band play one of their best songs. I had sworn to myself long ago, that I was going to be a musician, no matter what the costs. My throat started to hurt and I knew I needed a drink but I couldn’t leave now, not when they were playing my favorite song. I sighed turning around and walking back out towards a drink stand.

I approached the drinks stand with the music still playing in the distance. I bought a water and turned around surveying the grounds surrounding me. The sunset streamed over everyone making them have an orange glow. I started wandering around because I knew I wasn’t going to get my spot back in that crowd. I approached a tent and I saw a girl asleep, with her blond hair streaming out around her head like a halo. She looked no older than 13, I scrutinized her, kneeling down next to her. I wondered where her mother was, she looked alone, a fire burned near her feet and I looked down her body, surveying the baby blue dress that she wore, he feet were bare and her soles black, the dress had rips and looked faded from age. I moved to get on my feet when something grabbed my arm. I looked down at my arm and saw a pale hand, gripping onto it, making my harm tingle with pain.
“Do you want to know your fate, Jason?” An angelic yet hoarse voice called.
I looked around and saw no one. I looked down at the blond girl who was once asleep. Her eyes were open, but there was no color, her eyes were completely white as if she was dead and her hand only gripped my arm tighter.
“Do you want to know your fate, Jason?” She said again, I watched her lips move, her lips looked dried and cracked as if they were as fragile as glass. She turned her head towards mine making her move her blond hair slightly. I gulped down the massive lump that had formed in my throat and nodded my head.
“Your fate holds nothing, a blank abyss of dark, evil things. Your death shall be slow and painful and much sooner than you’d think. I’d be aware of those around you Jason. Dark times lay ahead for you.” The girl said keeping her gaze on me.
I kept my eyes locked on her, I knew this couldn’t be true it was too unbelievable. The girl closed her eyes and loosened her grip on my arm. Her arm dropped to her side and she hung limply again. I sat there to terrified to move, shaking all over, my eyes still wide.

The girl moved again, stirring slightly, I flinched, I fell on my butt and started going back. The girl opened her eyes and I caught sight of the deepest blue eyes you have ever seen. All fear washed away from me, I hopped to my feet and started walking towards her.
“Are…Are you ok?” I stammered.
She looked up at me and she looked a little stunned before turning bright red. “I’m…I’m sorry.” She said looking away from me.
I gave her a confused look. “What are you sorry for?”
“The whole fate thing. I’m sorry.” She said again.
I nodded my head and turned back towards her. “What’s your name?”
“Kate.” She replied.
“I’m Jason.” I said pointing at my chest.
She started giggling. “I know.”
I rubbed the back of my head ruffling up my hair. “Oh yea.”
I sat down next to her on the cold hard ground, talking, laughing and enjoying myself.

The sun went down and I was forced to leave Kate back at her place. I walked back to my tent and unzipped the door falling onto the sleeping bag waiting for me. I closed my eyes and let my body be drifted off to sleep.

I woke with a start and looked up to see a dark figure standing in the doorway blocking the moonlight. I leaned over and grabbed my torch, flicking it on and shining it in the eyes of the figure. My mouth dropped as I was looking at Kate.
“Kate, what are you doing here?” I asked rubbing my eyes, already very sleepy.
She didn’t respond, she just continued looking at me, I could feel her eyes boring into me. I shined the torch in her eyes, instantly fearing the white eyes that stared back at me. I watched a sadistic smile come over her face, I heard the sound of metal and I looked up to see a knife being drawn from behind her back. I closed my eyes and tried to sprint out of the small doorway there was. I felt instant pain come from my stomach and I stumbled back to see the hilt of the knife sticking out of my stomach. I fell onto my sleeping bag.
“Something evil has come.” Kate said in a soft but hoarse voice.
I felt my vision become blurry and my breathing became short and fast. I felt my conscious slowly slipping away from me and I knew that death was upon me.
