Jack And The Great War

I was walking home on the day of my birthday with my sisters Rebecca, Jade, Jasmine and Mallory and I could hear the school bully walking behind me, calling me Pooralina. By the way my name is Jack and the school bully’s name is Billy. Everyone calls him Bully Bill. Billy likes to tease me a lot because I am poor and very gentle like a girl. My family and I live in a three room house in the poorest street in town, Dull Street. Each room could only fit in a double bed and a bedside table. Some rooms were even smaller.

I have six younger sisters and two twin baby brothers so it was hard to live in such a small house. Rebecca was ten, one year younger than me, Jade and Jasmine were nine and Mallory was six. Bonnie and Kristy were four and three and James and Jordan were two.

By the time we got home our dad was getting ready to fight against Germany. He was an air pilot. We were just in time to say goodbye. My mum was crying and Bonnie, Kristy James and Jordan were sleeping except. Britney who was our next-door neighbor had come over to help mum.

That night the bombs began showering like rain over Westfield. My heart was beating really fast as we ran outside clinging to Britney and our mum. Before we could get to our cabin a German soldier appeared from nowhere and grabbed mum. The soldier led mum away and left us alone.

As Britney showed us the way to the cabin, I could see a tear rolling down her cheek. Now it was my turn to say it will be okay. As we got into the cabin and drifted to sleep, questions went through my mind. Are our parents okay? Will this war ever end? Are we going to survive? I kept asking myself these questions as I fell asleep.
