A Dream I Hope Never Happens

I hop in my bed and turn off the light
I get comfortable in my bed and close my eyes
Only to hear a smashing sound
It sounds as if a window has been smashed
I see a light turn on in the hall
I get under my bed in fear
And stay as quiet as possible

My door opens and I fear this will be my last breath
But my dad bends down and tells me
Stay in your room and don't come out
I hop back in bed and pause
To hear what's going on
I hear my dad talking to the man
And then I hear him talking back
I then get out of my bed and stood by the door
Opened it and saw my dad
Face to face with the robber

He is trying to calm him down but has no luck
The robber raises a gun to my dad's body
And he........pulls the trigger
A loud bang goes off around the house
As the man runs off I run and catch my dad
Just as he was about to hit his head
In his last breath he tells me
That a true hero is someone who saves others
He then stops breathing and lays still
I lay him on the ground and do CPR
Yelling don't die daddy
Don't die daddy!!

But he doesn't respond
My mother comes out and pulls me away
But I push her away and keep trying
I keep trying for hours and hours
But he never breathes again
I will never forget those words he told me
A true hero, is someone who saves others
He is a true hero
For saving his family
