It was a cold wet night on the 21st of December , young Edward was walking home after a long, hard day of chimney sweeping when he heard a loud, creaking noise coming from the end of the alley way. With a jump and a scream Edward ran to the old wooden ladder and climbed up as fast a he could until he got to his corner in his part of the roof. Edward shared the roof with 80 other young boys. Two of the kids named were George and Thomas, these two boys were the closest members to family that Edward had since he was 4 years old.
Edward was unable to sleep that night as 6 years ago tonight was he night of his birth and all he could think about was his mother, until Thomas said “ I’ve become a servant boy at that house over there” pointing North easterly to a rich house.“I’m leaving in two days and I have no choice” Thomas sounded so sad when he said it so Edward tried to cheer him up without saying a thing about his own troubles.
“We will try to find a way to keep you safe and we will find a way for you to stay with us, but lets not tell anyone about this until we find out what to do ” He promised.
“Can I tell George at least?” asked Thomas
Thomas and Edward both didn’t know that George was behind them so his questions was alarming.
“Tell me what?”
“Oh we didn’t know you were up and were listening” said Thomas
“I wasn’t until you said my name” replied George
Thomas told George and Edward the whole story and together they began to think of a plan but just before they finished their conversation Thomas put his hand in his pocket and picked up a piece of paper with the name Edward written on it
“ Oh yeah, right, a lady asked if I knew you and I said yes so she told me to give this to you as soon as I see you next. I must have forgotten”
Thomas gave Edward the note and left him alone to read it. It was very difficult for Edward to read the note though he managed in the end. Once he finished he started to cry and fell asleep. For nearly two days Edward didn’t come out of his corner until it finally hit him how he can protect all three of them.
He waited until they all got on the roof to tell them the great news and to tell them to pack their things.
“Oh come on before it gets dark” said George
All three went down the ladder and ran down to a large house about 5 streets away. This house was a mansion so it was Edward who knocked on the door.

“Hello, can I help you?” said a very pretty lady who opened the door
“It’s me Edward, it’s me you son, mum” replied Edward
Tears went down both their faces as they hugged each other.
“Come in, come in” said Edwards’s mother “I presume you got my letter” she said to Edward.
“Yes” replied Edward “We need you to adopt Thomas and George take me back as a son, before Thomas becomes a servant boy in the morning”
“Oh, Course Edward of Course” Edwards mother said as she started to sob again."Thank-you for giving the letter to Edward." said Edward mother to Thomas.

That night Edward mother took George and Thomas to the court house and the officially became a part of the family.
